While traveling to work on his first day as the new 'Crime Street' blogger for the SYDNEY
STAR Newspaper, Scott Willasee encounters five bikers attempting to hijack an armoured van.
After accidently crashing his own bike in a failed effort to chase the gang, he changes into the VOid!, rescues their hostage, then confronts and subdues the bikers.
Changing back into his street clothes, Scott, starts to take notes from which to later write a report of the incident, but when he tries to find out what the contents of the truck are, the driver acts very evasive, so much so, that Scott decides to use his unique ability to phase his body between the atoms of solid matter, to peer inside and look for himself. To his astonishment, he discovers that it's a traveling F.S.I.R.O. (the Federal Scientific Investigation & Research Organization) laboratory - the cargo being some grey looking blobs in glass cylinders.
Anyhoo, after a side trip to the North Sydney police station where he is charged with 'Disobeying a Police Directive', Scott finally arrives at the downtown newspaper office reception where he introduces himself to the beautiful Helena Kostus who tells him that their boss MJ Murphy has been anxiously awaiting his arrival. Scott then delivers his first hand account of the mornings events, which is then quickly rushed on-line, thus securing Scott his first Big City headline---sounds easy, yes?
Well, just as he is getting comfortable at his new desk, who enters but the beautiful and fiesty head of the SWAT team, Senior Constable Christine Strong. She had been absent earlier at the robbery site, but now wants all the details Scott can remember, as she, begrudgingly confesses that the bikers have escaped while being transported to Long Bay and that the driver of the van has also vanished - Scott is now the only reliable eye witness because the hostage (a young girl) is still in shock.
Later, while attending a crime scene down on the 2nd level of Town Hall station, Scott is told by police media spokesman Les Tane that the bikers have turned up dead, lying on the tracks of the City Circle railway line...
Shortly, in a well know George Street watering hole, semi-retired reporter Glenn DeVries and off duty Police Detective Sergeant Theo Boil give Scott the lowdown on the Sydney Underworld.
After Boil leaves, DeVries also excuses himself, he has spotted Jack Hammer (the Kiwi Hitman) and decided to follow him, Scott becomes suspicious and tails DeVries... 5 minutes later, in a back alley off Dixon Street, Hammer meets the FSIRO truck driver and takes delivery of a small glass container with some of the grey jelly substance inside---then suddenly from the shadows there emerges a gang of Chinese, brandishing nunchukers, etc. Scott quickly changes into the VOid! ready to save DeVries who is now trapped in the alley between the two parties...
While the VOid! plays Jackie Chan with these guys, the Hammer tries to slip away, only to drop the glass container. He then stands, in shock, watching whatever is in it, slither away, then he and the truck driver take off in separate directions. The Chinese, realizing Hammer has escaped, also disperse.
Now that DeVries is out of danger, Scott manages to trail Hammer to the Kings Cross penthouse office of Sydney CRIMEBOSS Sir Anthony Morgan, where, from a ceiling vantage point, he listens into the two men's coversation. Scott overhears that Morgan has been brokering a deal between an unknown party and the FSIRO worker to purchase whatever the grey blob thing was.
Apparently Morgan had tried to pull a 'swifty' by getting Hammer to hire the bikers to steal the item, but instead they made a mess of it (mainly due to the VOid!'s interference)-- the Chinese attack was an unfortunate co-incidence because Hammer was recognized as he left the pub.
Note: Morgan's rival for control of Sydney's gangland, Huey Fatt, leader of the local Tong, has posted standing orders to kill Hammer whenever and wherever he is seen.
Taking in all the details, Scott leaves, then changes into street clothes before making his way back to Castlereagh Street.
Feeling pretty happy with himself over his personal performance during the last eight hours, both as a Big City reporter and costumed crime fighter. Scott resolves to do even more tomorrow and follow up on all that he's overheard, especially about getting evidence to implicate the FSIRO agent in the death of the bikers. Reaching the Sydney Star reception area, he is told that SC Strong has left him something on his desk --
SCOTT: " Hey maybe it's her phone number--man o man she's a pretty good looker for a cop!"
But no, it's his helmet and a bill 'being for Removal/Disposal of charred metal frame'.
SCOTT: "Arggh-that's right-in all the excitement I forgot-I lost my bike!!!"
